Comox Valley Life Drawing Group

Henrie, who organizes the Comox drawing group, possibly the longest running drawing group in the valley, has forwarded info on upcoming fall sessions. It's small studio that will only accomodate about 9 persons plus model, so it's not open drawing. However, Henrie says that there are openings on the Wednesday evening sessions, and some opportunities for Thursday during the day.

For more details contact Henrie at: beauguillo@yahoo.ca

Hi fellow artists,
Welcome back to those who are able to return to the Comox Valley Lifedrawing Group.
I've come up with, I think, as fair a solution to some of the issues encountered last term. The idea for me was to come up with a way to ensure that a good number of artists attend regularly and that we could always cover $50 per week for our model. We need to cover the added expense of heating the studio for the models and I am including one hour per week to cover the time that I spend hiring the models and preparing the studio for the group.

The fee per 4 weeks is $39.50 x 3 months
Wednesdays: September 23 to December 9, 2009
7:15 - 9:30 pm (15 minute tea break)
or
Thursdays: September 17 to December 03, 2009
10:00 am - 12:30 pm (1/2 hour tea break)
Total $118.50
I'm hoping that most members can pay the whole amount September 17 and if necessary I could do two equal payments of $59.25, a postdated cheque for October 22nd, 2009 could be given September 17, 2009. That way I won't have to take a lot of time checking and cross checking who has and has not paid.

For those who know they will be away some of the time, there will be a waitlist with names and phone numbers that I will email the group, so you can invite someone from that list. Their fee per week is $9.78 or if you want it to be an even $10.00, that is up to you. I'll have envelopes with your names on it for the payment to go into for your return. Please remind your replacement to ask about the envelope.

I will be paying the model with a pre-written cheque so members won't have to remember their cash every week, except for the person from the waitlist.

If you wish to continue as we did for snacks and tea (contributions from the members), that would be great.
See you soon,
Henrie

Hail Life Forms; Life Drawing Resumes!

Cumberland Lifers life drawing sessions resume on Monday October 5th at the Cumberland Junior School Art Room...7pm precisely, sort of...and will run until Monday December 7th.

! Don't forget there will be no sessions on public holidays when the school is closed. That would mean Thanksgiving Day on Monday October 12th, !

We'll try for female and male models alternatively, two are booked already and will try to book the whole 9 sessions in advance this season.

If you haven't joined us and wish to, the sessions are 10 bucks usually; often 5 if we have rent and the next weeks model fees paid for. It's all very relaxed, with a diverse range of artistic experience and styles and good company. You can email Clive for more information including directions to Cumberland Jr. School at cpowsey@shaw.ca

Hope to see you there, Clive

PS. Just got an email from Andrew Cahner, who is the author of The Art Model's Handbook who has also put together a list of open life drawing sessions continent wide, and he has a listing for Cumberland Lifers under BC right here. He wanted to check the details of our listing. His book itself looks extremely interesting, possibly a must-have for both artists and models, do check it out if you have a moment!

Lisa, Will, John and Matt

We all know Cumberland Lifer Lisa Pasquil headed off to Bristol in the UK where hubby Dave works in Aerospace. I was just checking the blog of her life drawing group, Bristol Life Drawing, (on our links or see below) and the blogmiester Will Stevens has an interesting and insightful item on the John Berger episode of 'Todays Nude'. Actually, Will has lots of interesting items, it's a blog worth checking into occasionally. He, and presumably Lisa, have also had visits from a talented group of animation industry artists working in Bristol with Aaardman Animations, the creators of Wallace and Grommit. One of them is a Matt Jones, who is well known in the animation blogosphere and superb drawer-er; I've often visited his blog to check out his drawings. Links below:

Montparnasse, the play

A quick post under the 'all things life-drawing and painting' heading. 'Montparnasse', a play written and performed by Maev Beaty and Erin Shields, ran during the SummerWorks Festival in Toronto back in August. I have a couple of friends who went to see it who really enjoyed it. It's apparently about two close female friends working as life models in Paris during the inter-war years with lots of reference to the heady arts and culture of the time.
