When the Day Breaks

This is the animated short that Bill's nieces did.  Fantastic!  I love it.  The story delightful, yet very deep.  The animation exquisite.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuUwDuV8GNY

Three spaces left - Monday drawing at the Muir

There are 3 spots left for people interested in the Monday life drawing sessions at the Muir.  Penny, I talked to you about it last Thursday.  Could you phone Elizabeth at the Muir to reserve a spot?  I would phone you but don't know your number.
The next four sessions start March 12 - April 2nd

Amanda Forbis & Wendy Tilby animators

Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby were just nominated for an Academy Award for a short film; here is a really nice little documentary look at their studio and process and a sample of their work; in this case an advert for United Airways. Thanks Bill Kerr for putting us on to your nieces amazing work!

Correction on submission and opening dates for this call for entry:

Call for submission to:

"Stark: Seeing the Body"

-The exhibition is open to anyone and everyone who would like to
submit a figurative image that is a view of the body. The bulk of
submissions would presumably be artists involved with the regular
practice of drawing, painting or sculpting from life.

-The show will run from February 28th to March 24th, 2012 at the McMillan
Arts Centre in Parksville.

-The show will be semi-informal in the sense that not all
two-dimensional works (drawings, paintings, and collages) have to be
framed. But all (including sculptures and mixed media) should be ready
for presentation. Unframed works on paper can be tacked or clipped and
tacked to the wall. If you don't want the drawing perforated by a pin
or finishing nail, provide small bulldog clips, for example, which
will be attached to the drawing and these will be attached to the
wall. Every effort will be made by the gallery to not damage work,
however, if you consider an image, on paper for example, to be
exceptionally valuable then you should perhaps put it behind glass.

-Depending on the number of submissions a limit may have to be placed
on works hung. Multiple submissions by one artist might have to be
reduced at the time of hanging. Every effort will be made to hang all
submitting artists.

-Works can be for sale. The gallery takes a commission of 30%.

-The works need to be delivered to the McMillan Arts Centre at 133
McMillan Street, Parksville, at the latest by Monday February 27,
12:00 PM. The reception will be held on March 2nd at 7:00 PM. The
show will be taken down on Monday, Mar 26th, at 10:00 AM.

-Usually the artists contribute refreshments for the reception. The
gallery provides tea and coffee.

INTRINSIC REWARD

Come out to see my first exhibit! The show runs from Feb. 15th to Mar. 3rd at the Muir gallery.
This is actually a joint showing of my paintings and the paintings of a woman I work with who is mentally and physically challenged.
To fill some of the time spent together, we have been painting. I am impressed by aspects of her painting style - boldness, and an indifference to convention. So I am very pleased to be able to showcase some of her paintings along with my own. We are exhibiting a few that we have worked on together. My aim for these pieces is to allow both of us to 'have our say' on the canvas. This is one of the paintings we did together. We took turns, each painting over the others work until, this.
