New drawing links.

Jennifer recently submitted a link for the Canadian Drawing Masters website which was posted below a few weeks back. There are a fairly wide variety of artist drawings on the site, including some by Nick Raynalds, to whom Roger posted a link to earlier and who has a gallery link down below in contributors links. There appears to be a 'Masters' drawing program by one of the founders of CDM's Gerrit Verstraete; there are links to his gallery and online collections at the site, a bit convoluted to find them, but worth the time, and there is also a blog for his students linked from called 'In the footsteps of the masters' . I think Gerrit lives on Saltspring or Gabriola, so he's sort of in our neck of the woods.

Many of the CDM's are from the old Fine Arts department of the Ontario College of art. Which made me recall probably one of the most painted and drawn persons in Canada George Rathwell. If you click his name you can see a drawing of him from one of the Canadian drawing masters, David Owen Campbell. In fact, I think the large drawing of George with the shoulder bag on the left of the poster is by Campbell. George must have worked at the College for over 30 years. He was required to retire in the late eighties at 65, and as a result produced the above poster with which he drummed up modelling work from loyal client artists.

One of our regular models, Jason, has also sent in a link for the Basic Inquiry life drawing group out of Vancouver which looks interesting for any one in the big smoke in the future.

And when in Scotland...or right now at this link, check out Sketch Group Scotland. They even made up a poster as we did! OK, it's not life drawing, but it's from life. There don't seem to be a huge number of blogs or sites devoted mostly to drawing so it's great to find this one. Of course, you can link to all of the contributors individual blogs and there are a lot of lovely drawings to be seen on there as well. There's also some life drawing here that was done by an art student in London, UK that is exciting. And more here and here by student artists in other European locations. There is something very dynamic and exciting in the drawings of younger persons. If anyone can find more drawing blogs, please post them...it's great to look.

Project Gutenberg is an online compilation of out of print old books beyond copyright law. There are some apparently well known turn of the last century books on old school drawing and painting that are fascinating if you have the time.

My Father's Hand is a bittersweet blog which doesn't seem active at the moment but will hopefully pick up again. The child of an American commercial artist who recently died has been posting the drawings of their father and trying to find out something about the man.

BibliOdyssey posts old plates from old books that are usually mysterious and wonderful.

And make sure you spend lots of time browsing Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art Blog as a cautionary exercise against the evils of mixing drinking, drawing, having fun and failing to be a morbidly serious and puritanical ideologue when it comes to art.
